LEARNING NETWORKS
I believe in the power of a good professional learning network. The biggest gains come from the “giving” and “getting” process that happens between like minded educators. Being a member of some learning communities has opened my eyes to possibilities and ways of thinking that I had would not have have been exposed to otherwise. For me most of my learning networking happens online because I am a mom of two toddler boys, so while I have participated and presented at some conferences, including the recent TCEA area 10 & 11 conference, I have found that some of my most meaningful connections have began without the face to face interaction.
I remember many years ago realizing the potential that Pinterest had as a platform for lesson ideas and inspiration. Sharing those boards with my teaching team was our first foray into online PLNs. From there, my journey as an educator took me to Twitter, and out of all the learning networks that I have been involved with, it is the one that has radically advanced my knowledge of twenty-first teaching strategies.
